Ormond-By-The-Sea is a census-designated place and an unincorporated town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,430 at the 2000 census. The area is also widely known as OBC or OBTS by the younger generation of locals. This was originated by a few surfers from the area during the early 80s and is derived from the OBC NSG, the latter an abbreviation for the north shore gang. Lisa Anderson a popular surfer grew up in OBC where she learned how to surf. At one time a fiercely territorial local surf spot.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8,430 people, 4,296 households, and 2,495 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,635.6/km² (4,245.5/mi²). Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.30% of the population.
There were 4,296 households out of which 13.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.9% were non-traditional families as a large number of Gay and Lesbian couples live in OBC. 35.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.96 and the average family size was 2.46.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 12.9% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 35.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 54 years. For every 100 females there were 87.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.4 males.

The per capita income for the CDP was $22,503. About 7.3% of families and 9.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.
Perhaps the most interesting fact about the heritage of the OBC is that it has been intensely preserved over a long lineage of pirates and smugglers who settled in the area long before Florida was adopted as a state.
Residents who are born in the OBC, raised and die in OBC are now a tiny remnant of the community. Most residents were born elsewhere and many are snowbirds who live elsewhere in the summers. The surfers and poor elderly are being replaced by younger and wealthier homeowners and seasonal residents who purchase their older cottages as tear downs and replace them with modern and high style beach houses to support their "glitter" lifestyle.
